How Temp Mail finds your verification code automatically
Most emails to a temporary inbox contain a code. Here is how we spot it in 15 languages, why we sometimes get it wrong, and how to copy it in one tap.
Open a temporary inbox and the first email is usually the same: "Your verification code is 482913." Reading the code, switching tabs, typing six digits — it is a small chore that happens dozens of times a week. Temp Mail removes it.
What you see
When an email contains a code, the inbox list shows a small orange CODE chip next to the subject, and the email itself opens with a large copy button at the top. Tap it and the code is on your clipboard. If browser notifications are on, the code is included in the notification, so you may never need to open the email at all.
How detection works
The detector runs on our server the moment an email arrives, before the email is stored. It looks for:
- Numeric codes of 4 to 8 digits (with optional spaces or dashes in the middle, like 123-456).
- Alphanumeric codes of 6 to 10 characters that are clearly set apart from normal words.
- Keywords nearby, such as code, OTP, PIN, verification, one-time, passcode — and their equivalents in Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Indonesian, Turkish, Russian, Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese.
A number next to a keyword scores highest. A bare 6-digit number in the subject line scores well too. Phone numbers, years, order numbers and prices are filtered out; a pattern that looks like "2026" or "$120.00" will not be treated as a code.
Detection also handles the two most common formatting tricks: codes split with spaces ("48 29 13") and codes inside HTML tables with each digit in its own cell.
When it gets it wrong
No heuristic is perfect. If an email contains two numbers, we pick the one closest to a keyword. Occasionally an order number will be mistaken for a code — the real one is always still in the email body, and the copy button never replaces it. If you notice a pattern we miss, tell us through the contact page; the keyword list grows with every report.
Privacy note
Detection happens entirely inside our server while the email is being processed. Nothing is sent to a third party, and the extracted code is stored alongside the email, subject to the same deletion schedule.
